Executive Speaking Session

At CCTA 2013, Triveni Digital’s Ralph Bachofen will deliver a joint presentation with Suddenlink Communications’ Director of Video Engineering Eric Eby on January 23. During the presentation, titled “Improve Service Quality and Extend Service Offerings With PSIP and SI Metadata,” Bachofen and Eby will explain why accurate Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) generation and management are critical for straightforward and effective delivery of digital TV (DTV) programming and play a key role in allowing cable operators to deploy a clear QAM digital basic lineup. The presentation includes a live, hands-on demonstration of how Suddenlink Communications is using Triveni Digital GuideBuilder® SI to generate accurate Digital Video Broadcasting Service Information (DVB-SI) and enhance/manage its more than 12,800 clear QAM and DTA services, as well as ensure a seamless transition to digital for their customers.

Key Products

StreamScope® Software Release With Audio Loudness

Given the legislation in the United States with the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act and in Europe (EBU, AGCOM), loudness monitoring is an important regulatory topic facing cable and telco operators this year.

In addressing this regulatory process, Triveni Digital’s StreamScope® software release enhances the comprehensive real-time analysis and verification of DTV transport streams with loudness monitoring. StreamScope now provides end-to-end MPEG-2/MPEG-4 transport stream analysis and monitoring for DTV services carried by broadcast, cable, satellite, and IPTV networks. While the StreamScope already included powerful audio monitoring capabilities including dialnorm, this software release extends its capabilities by allowing users to monitor and analyze audio loudness according to ITU-R Recommendation BS.1770. This means broadcasters can continuously log and export accurate LKFS/LUFS loudness measurements of transport streams in real time in order to collect the forensic evidence of compliance critical for addressing this issue.

GuideBuilder® PSIP/SI Generation System for Cable Operators

With cable operators deploying clear QAM digital basic lineups, the Triveni Digital GuideBuilder® system provides all the tools necessary to get channel and guide information to customers with digital televisions offering built in clear-QAM tuners, as well as to customers with basic, non-decrypting, digital set-top boxes (STBs). The system’s virtual channel map allows channel numbers to be the same for customers with or without a STB, enabling operators to ensure that the transition to “all digital” is seamless for subscribers. GuideBuilder also gives clear QAM customers channel branding and an Extended Program Guide (EPG).
