Suddenlink and Triveni Digital Executives to Discuss
PSIP and SI Metadata at CCTA 2013

PRINCETON, N.J. - January 16, 2013

Suddenlink Communications’ director of video engineering Eric Eby and Triveni Digital’s vice president of marketing and head of sales Ralph Bachofen will deliver a joint presentation at the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA) 2013, Jan. 22-24, at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel in Bermuda. The presentation, titled “Improve Service Quality and Extend Service Offerings With PSIP and SI Metadata,” will take place Jan. 23, and describe why accurate Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) generation and management are critical for straightforward and effective delivery of digital TV (DTV) programming and how they play key roles in allowing cable operators to deploy a clear QAM digital basic lineup.

“As a major cable operator in the United States, Suddenlink Communications is committed to making the video user experience as seamless and flexible as possible for its customers. One of the ways we accomplish this is by effectively generating PSIP and SI metadata,” said Eby. “Throughout the presentation, we will provide attendees with a successful framework for delivering reliable channel and guide information to digital TVs and set-top boxes.”

The presentation will detail how Suddenlink Communications is using Triveni Digital GuideBuilder® SI to generate accurate Digital Video Broadcasting Service Information (DVB-SI) and enhance/manage its more than 12,800 clear QAM and DTA services, as well as ensure a seamless transition to digital for their customers.

“Today’s cable operators are facing unprecedented competition and challenges as they deploy clear QAM digital basic lineups and all-digital television services,” said Bachofen. “During the presentation, we will help attendees achieve a greater understanding of how PSIP and SI metadata can improve their clear QAM and DTA services as well as provide methods for guaranteeing a flawless transition to DTV.”

Eby is the director of video engineering for Suddenlink Communications and a member of the SCTE Engineering Standards Committee. He started his cable career in the customer care center and transitioned to network engineering, where he was integral in supporting 130 cable headends with more than 900 Internet circuits. Email, DNS, modem provisioning, and support tools also were maintained and/or developed by Eby’s engineering team. As digital video gained popularity, Eby also began to work with Motorola headend equipment and DAC for conditional access.

Bachofen has more than 15 years of experience in voice and multimedia over IP, telecommunications, and in the semiconductor business. His professional career includes senior technical and marketing roles at Conexant Systems, Siemens, and Accelerated Networks. Bachofen holds an executive master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor of science degree in telecommunication technologies. An expert on the role of metadata in the effective provision and monitoring of all DTV services, he is a frequent speaker on the topics of audio loudness monitoring and compliance, advanced broadcast platforms, and mobile DTV delivery.
