Triveni Digital to Present Technical Session at 2010 California Capitol Vendors Day

Triveni Digital Executive Brings 25 Years of Experience in Cable Television to Discussion of PSIP Data and Its Importance in Today’s Digital Cable Television Networks

PRINCETON, N.J. - May 27, 2010

Triveni Digital today announced that Leon Urban, senior sales engineer at the company, will lead a technical seminar at the 2010 California Capitol Vendors Day, hosted by the SCTE Sierra Chapter, on June 3. Urban, who has more than 25 years of experience in the cable industry, will examine the what, why, where, and how of using PSIP metadata in digital cable television systems following the DTV transition. Urban’s session, “PSIP in Cable: What is PSIP and Why It Matters,” is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Sacramento.

“Today, digital cable television networks of every size have more and more reason to understand and manage PSIP metadata,” said Urban. “With this session, we will identify the role of PSIP data within the cable plant, clarify how it supports day-to-day service delivery, and explore how it can be used to create new service and revenue-generation opportunities in a modern digital cable network.”

While numerous practical reasons make it beneficial for digital cable television network operators, both large and small, to understand and manage PSIP metadata, the strongest driver has been a mandate from the FCC. The FCC requires that PSIP information must be present in the cable feed for channels ingested off-air or those channels typically carried “in the clear” to enable a similar viewing experience for subscribers not using set-top boxes or Tru2way cards. Urban’s presentation will elaborate on these issues while discussing the nature and value of PSIP data within the modern digital cable operation.

The California Capitol Vendors Day show will feature product training and demonstrations from up to 50 cable television industry suppliers and will include formal breakout sessions, led by Urban and other industry leaders, on key technical issues in today’s cable television industry. The show’s host, the SCTE Sierra Chapter, represents the Northern Sacramento Valley, the Northern Sierras and North Western Nevada regions.
