Triveni Digital GuideBuilder® Metadata Platform for Mobile TV Delivery Earns STAR Award From TV Technology
PRINCETON, N.J. - May 3, 2010
Triveni Digital today announced that its GuideBuilder® metadata platform was recognized with a 2010 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award, presented by the editorial staff of TV Technology magazine at the 2010 NAB Show. GuideBuilder Mobile extends the feature-rich platform to support the delivery of quality mobile DTV services with negligible impact on existing operations.
“After years of research, development, and implementation of metadata and guide server systems — specifically, PSIP generators — and deep integration of these systems with other workflow management components, we believe that the ATSC mobile broadcasters’ most cost-effective approach to ESG (Electronic Service Guide) management is to extend and rely on their existing systems,” said Ralph Bachofen, vice president of sales and head of marketing at Triveni Digital. “GuideBuilder makes this possible by offering broadcasters a simple and cost-effective means of launching and delivering mobile DTV services. We’re thrilled that the unique value of this innovative platform has been recognized by TV Technology’s expert panel.”
Triveni Digital’s GuideBuilder provides mission-critical operational capabilities for both content providers and network operators. By supporting unified fixed and mobile DTV metadata management and generation capabilities in a single platform, the system allows broadcasters to leverage existing infrastructure and workflows in deploying robust mobile DTV broadcasts. This model not only supports a cost-effective approach to implementing mobile metadata, guide signaling, and announcement, but also simplifies user interfaces and workflow to enable provision of the most up-to-date schedule information, whether the mobile schedule is simulcast or separate from the fixed broadcast. As a result, a station's technical personnel can deal with all audio/video services in a consistent manner, using a single user interface.
GuideBuilder’s fully automated redundancy; support for centralized PSIP/mobile metadata generation; and tight integration with multiplexers, listing systems, traffic systems, and automation systems make it easy to incorporate into existing broadcast infrastructures. The system’s mobile DTV capabilities enable transmission of mobile metadata (both signaling and ESG) to mobile ATSC receivers so that users can select and change viewing channels, ensuring up-to-date scheduling and tuning, managed through the operator’s existing workflow components. In addition to supplying information about current and future shows, durations, ratings, and other characteristics, the mobile DTV features within GuideBuilder also support the delivery and display of parental control data, channel icons, zap interstitials and ESG banner ads.
“Every year, the NAB Show serves as the launching pad for thousands of new products and services for audio and video professionals,” said Tom Butts, TV Technology editor. “Our panel of editors walks the show floor in search of the most innovative technologies. The products and services that we select for the STAR Award make the cut — they demonstrate their ability to help advance the acquisition and distribution of entertainment and information across the media spectrum.”
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, TV Technology’s STAR Award is designed to honor and showcase the outstanding technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.
