Hearst Television Leverages Triveni Digital and Harmonic Technology to Activate Statistical Multiplexing in All ATSC 3.0 Lighthouse Stations
Innovative Solution Optimizes Bandwidth Efficiency and Video Quality for NEXTGEN TV Broadcasts
PRINCETON, N.J. - April 2, 2025

Triveni Digital, a trusted leader in ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 service delivery, data broadcasting, and quality assurance solutions, today announced that Hearst Television has activated statistical multiplexing across all of its ATSC 3.0 lighthouse stations using Triveni Digital and Harmonic solutions. This strategic move leverages the synergistic capabilities of Triveni Digital's advanced broadcast chain products and Harmonic's XOS Advanced Media Processor, underscoring the proven effectiveness of both companies’ long-standing collaboration in driving innovation and optimizing performance in the rapidly evolving landscape of NEXTGEN TV technology.
The activation of statistical multiplexing enables Hearst Television to achieve benchmark video quality while maximizing bandwidth efficiency. Through this implementation, Hearst is better positioned to efficiently manage its spectrum resources and deliver a superior viewing experience to its audience.
Harmonic's XOS media processor, integrated with the Triveni Digital broadcast chain, orchestrates dynamic adjustments to bit rate allocations within the ATSC 3.0 physical layer, ensuring optimal bandwidth utilization and pristine video quality. Triveni’s broadcast chain products offer a robust, feature-rich solution, seamlessly integrated with its monitoring and orchestration systems and key partners like Harmonic to deliver a complete ATSC 3.0 platform. This deployment showcases the seamless integration of Triveni Digital and Harmonic technologies and their combined commitment to empowering broadcasters with state-of-the-art solutions.

“With prior-generation video codecs, statistical multiplexing has been a proven technology to maintain excellent video quality with optimal bandwidth efficiency,” said Joe Addalia, vice president, Broadcast Technology for Hearst Television. “However, since HEVC is a highly efficient codec, we were not sure how well statistical multiplexing would perform in the ATSC 3.0 context. After extensive testing, it is clear that, in fact, statistical multiplexing in ATSC 3.0 achieves high video quality while optimizing bandwidth utilization, so we have turned on the feature in all of our ATSC 3.0 lighthouse stations. This is important from a business perspective given all the services we expect to carry in the future on our ATSC 3.0 stations. For example, this may allow migration to 4K delivery sooner. We have found Harmonic and Triveni to have leading technology and appreciate our working relationship with them.”
"Our collaboration with Triveni Digital offers broadcasters like Hearst Television an innovative statistical multiplexing solution to efficiently utilize the ATSC 3.0 spectrum,” said Gil Rudge, senior vice president, Solutions and Americas Sales, Video Business at Harmonic. “The XOS media processor unlocks valuable bandwidth efficiencies that are critical for delivering a rich and diverse array of NEXTGEN TV services."
“This deployment by Hearst Television validates the importance of statistical multiplexing in ATSC 3.0 and showcases the strength of the combined Triveni Digital and Harmonic solution,” said Mark Simpson, president and CEO at Triveni Digital. “Our ongoing collaboration with Harmonic ensures that broadcasters have access to the most advanced tools for delivering a superior NEXTGEN TV experience. We are proud to support Hearst in its efforts to optimize bandwidth and enhance video quality across its lighthouse stations.”
Triveni Digital and Harmonic will showcase their leading ATSC 3.0 solutions at the 2025 NAB Show in booths W3067 and W2821, respectively.
